NEW POLL: Majority of Americans support “forensic audits” of U.S. elections
The survey comes as states consider following the lead of Arizona.
Even though major corporations loudly complained about Georgia’s voter integrity laws, a majority of Americans actually support election oversight and auditing.
“A new national telephone and online survey by Rasmussen Reports finds that 55% of Likely U.S. Voters support forensic audits of election results to ensure there was no vote fraud,” the polling company found.
“The new survey also found that 41% of voters still don’t believe that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election fairly,” according to a summary.
However, some respondents worried that such audits would undercut support for the election system.
“Forty-eight percent (48%) think that expressing doubt about the outcome of elections undermines democracy in America,” Rasmussen said.
“Arizona’s Republican-controlled state senate is winding down its audit of more than 2 million ballots cast in Maricopa County,” Rasmussen noted.
Other states such as Pennsylvania and Virginia are considering implementing similar audits ahead of the 2022 and 2024 elections.
“State Sen. David Argall, who heads a committee that oversees elections, told local news outlets he favors a forensic audit of the contest that state and federal officials insist was secure,” the Washington Examiner reported on June 18.
