Chris Cuomo advises brother Andrew on media strategy, violating media ethics

The CNN host violated media ethics by advising his brother on media strategy.

CNN host Chris Cuomo held strategy calls with his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, on how to handle controversies.

The pair regularly push a left-wing agenda, and Cuomo has overseen the decline of the state and city of New York, while given cover by CNN.

“CNN anchor Chris Cuomo advised his brother, New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, and senior members of the governor’s staff on how to respond to sexual harassment allegations made earlier this year by women who had worked with the governor, according to four people familiar with the discussions,” the Washington Post reported recently.

Governor Cuomo is facing criminal investigations over a number of issues, including frequent sexual harassment allegations as well as his nursing home policies and subsequent cover-up up thousands of deaths.

According to Post conversations with insiders, Chris “joined a series of conference calls that included the Democratic governor, his top aide, his communications team, lawyers and a number of outside advisers.”

While Chris regularly holds himself out as a purveyor of truth, he actually violated a number of media ethics.

The Society of Professional Journalists’ ethics code says journalists should “Avoid conflicts of interest” and “be transparent.”

Most people understood when the CNN host said he could not cover his brother fairly, but people continue to lose trust in the media when so-called “journalists” give advice to their family members on how to deal with the media.

“If you are actively advising a politician in trouble while being an on-air host on a news network, that’s not okay,” Nicholas Lemann, a Columbia journalism professor and staff writer for the New Yorker, told the Post.

Chris Cuomo apologized on his show for breaking ethical norms. The CNN host is actually part of one of the investigations into his brother, who is accused of ensuring that family members received special COVID care early on during the outbreak.

“When my brother’s situation became turbulent, being looped into calls with other friends of his and advisors that did include some of his staff,” the CNN host said recently. “I understand why that was a problem for CNN. It will not happen again. It was a mistake.”
