Biden economy: number of Americans filing jobless claims rises ‘unexpectedly’
The economy suffered nearly 750,000 weekly jobless claims in the last week according to the Department of Labor.
“In the week ending April 3, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 744,000, an increase of 16,000 from the previous week's revised level,” the Department of Labor reported on Thursday.
“Jobless claims can be volatile week to week so economists like to look at the four-week average,” Breitbart noted. “This rose by 2,500 to 723,750.”
“The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week,” Reuters reported.
Many of the states with the largest decrease in jobless claims were primarily conservative states or states that had opened their economy in recent weeks.
The Department of Labor reported “the largest decreases were in Ohio (-14,879), Massachusetts (-12,001), Indiana (-3,785), Florida (-1,633), and Michigan (-1,622).” Massachusetts is led by a liberal, but pro-business Republican governor Charlie Baker, while Michigan legislators have been pushing back against leftist Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
One former Republican governor thinks President Joe Biden is to blame.
“Having a President who came into office actively working to eliminate thousands of jobs and destroy entire industries is perhaps why,” former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee tweeted.
