Facebook VP admits that its “fact-checkers” could have a left-wing bias
It’s not really a fact-checker if they aren’t relying solely on objective information.
A former left-wing British politician who now oversees policy for Facebook recently admitted that many of the Big Tech company’s fact-checkers likely have a bias against conservatives.
“Facebook vice-president Nick Clegg has admitted the company's fact-checkers – employed to root out alleged 'fake news' from its social-media platforms – could be biased and pursuing their own political agendas, according to a European Commission document obtained by The Mail on Sunday,” the Daily Mail reported
“The former Deputy Prime Minister made the admission to EU officials in November during talks about how the tech giant was tackling misinformation flooding its site,” The Mail reported.
Mark Zuckerberg’s company embarrassed itself recently when it had to retract its previous censorship of articles and Facebook pages that suggested coronavirus could have been created and leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
The admission that Facebook was potentially wrong further degraded trust in the so-called fact-checking program, which has been plagued with accusations of a far-left bias.
“Stories deemed false or misleading are not removed from the site but flagged to users via a series of warning labels. Facebook's sophisticated algorithms can relegate such stories so far down the site that few people would ever see them again,” The Mail explained.
