MSNBC Host Joy Reid Calls LeBron James, “Today’s Muhammad Ali”

MSNBC host Joy Reid tweeted out over the weekend that NBA star LeBron James was “today's Muhammad Ali and Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.”

The MSNBC host’s exuberant declaration came in response to LeBron’s reply to soccer sensation Zlatan Ibrahimovic who said James should stay out politics.

While pundits like Joy Reid and Jemele Hill may love LeBron James’ activism, it has caused a divide between fans with many clamoring for the days of old when Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan said “Republicans buy sneakers too” in response to calls for political activism.

It’s important to note that while Muhammad Ali stood up for freedom across the entire globe, LeBron James called Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey ‘misinformed’ when he stood up against Communist China.

If James were truly this generation’s Muhammad Ali, many would expect that he stands up for human rights not just in the United States, but in China.
