Cleveland Guardians Roller Derby Team Sues Cleveland Indians Over Name Change

The Cleveland Indians changed its name after being pressured by political correctness activists.

Go woke and go broke!

The Cleveland Indians are being sued after trying to change their name to the “Guardians,” which is already the name of a local roller derby team.

“Scott Garlock, the head coach of the Liberty Benton Eagles football team in Findlay, Ohio, was the target of a Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) letter dated Sept. 1 for ‘using his position to promote Christianity to his students,’” Caleb Parke reported.

“The Cleveland Guardians, a coed roller derby team that has held the name since 2013, sued Cleveland's baseball team in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio on Wednesday over trademark infringement, according to the lawsuit obtained by the Washington Examiner,” the site reported. It didn’t provide a copy of the lawsuit.

"There cannot be two 'Cleveland Guardians' teams in Cleveland, and, to be blunt, Plaintiff was here first,” the lawsuit says.

Curiously, the team had eliminated other options when they changed their name in July, due to trademark concerns.

“The team did not reveal the names of any of the other finalists, but Brian Barren, Cleveland's president of business operations, said trademarking issues eliminated several potential candidates. In the end, the team felt Guardians was a perfect fit,” ESPN reported.

Do you think the baseball team should go back to the “Indians?” Do you think political correctness has gone too far? Let us know below!
