Universal Orlando Removes Several Dr. Seuss Books From Shop, Considers Changes to Theme Park
Universal Orlando pulled some of Dr. Seuss’ books from its theme park gift shops and is considering changes to parts of their Dr. Seuss themed section of the park.
Dr. Seuss Enterprises, which is the entity that protects the author’s legacy, announced it would stop publishing six of the author's well-known books, including the first children’s book “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” and other classic “If I Ran the Zoo”.
Conservatives on social media have been blasting the publishing company for pulling the books. New York Times Best-Selling Author Brigitte Gabriel tweeted that if Dr. Seuss can be cancelled, “What can’t they shut down?”
The books are sold at Universal's Island of Adventure theme park in an area known as Seuss Landing.
Seuss Landing is a children's area is known for having characters and attractions inspired by Dr. Seuss.
Universal said in their public statement that Seuss Landing was one of the most popular parts of their park and would largely remain in tact.
“Seuss Landing continues to be very popular with our guests and we value our relationship with Seuss Enterprises, We’ve removed the books from our shelves as they have asked and we’ll be evaluating our in-park experience too. But our guests can plan on continuing to be able to enjoy their favorite experiences at Seuss Landing.”
Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel in 1904.
His Birthday is celebrated in America as ‘Read Across America Day’ every 2nd of March.
