Texas Governor Greg Abbott Signs Pro-Life Roe v. Wade ‘Trigger Law’
The “trigger law” will make Texas the largest pro-life state in the country if Roe v. Wade is reversed.
This year, the Supreme Court will hear a case that could allow states to prohibit abortions. The 1973 Roe v. Wade court case gave wide latitude to states to allow abortion for the vague reason of the “mother’s health” which does not have to mean a physical threat to her safety.
Pro-life conservative Governor Greg Abbott wants to make sure Texas is ready to ban abortion when Roe is reversed. It was actually a Texas law that was challenged in Roe.
“The main provision of House Bill 1280 would be implemented 30 days after a repeal of the Roe decision or if a constitutional amendment were adopted to the U.S. Constitution allowing states to prohibit abortion,” the National Review reported.
“I am signing a law today that will save babies from the ravages of abortion. It is known as the ‘abortion trigger bill.’ Under this law, the moment that Roe v. Wade is overturned, abortion will be outlawed in the state of Texas. Texas will continue to foster a culture of life,” Greg Abbott said during the signing.
