Teen who filmed George Floyd- Derek Chauvin encounter honored by Pulitzer Prize Group
George Floyd was a drug user and repeat criminal who died in the custody of Minneapolis police officers, the teen who filmed the encounter on her cellphone was honored by the Pulitzer Prize Association.
A teen who filmed Minneapolis police officers subdue drug user and repeat criminal George Floyd has received a special thank you from the Pulitzer Prize group, a set of journalism awards sponsored by Columbia University.
“The Pulitzer Prizes on Friday awarded a special citation to Darnella Frazier, the teenager whose 2020 video recording of an officer kneeling on George Floyd's neck before he died rocked the nation and prompted more national conversations around racism and police brutality,” The Hill reported.
“The Floyd story in particular highlighted not only the essential role of journalists, but the increasing importance of ordinary citizens in the quest for truth and justice ,” Mindy Marques said during the ceremony, the Hill said.
The teen drew a thanks from anti-cop U.S. Senator Cory Booker.
“Congrats, Darnella, on such an incredible and well-deserved honor,” the left-wing New Jersey Democrat said.
