REPORT: Chauvin juror attended Black Lives Matter rally with George Floyd’s family last summer
Serious legal questions are being raised as news broke that a juror in Derek Chauvin’s case failed to disclose he had attended a Black Lives Matter rally where George Floyd’s family members spoke.
A juror in the criminal trial against Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is trying to defend himself after it came to light that he attended a Black Lives Matter rally with George Floyd’s family last summer.
“A juror in the Derek Chauvin trial may have jeopardized the guilty verdict by attending a rally last year and wearing a ‘Get Your Knee Off Our Necks/BLM’ T-shirt, raising questions about whether he told the truth during jury selection,” the Washington Times reported.
“What may come back to haunt the prosecution is that Mr. [Brandon] Mitchell, 31, answered ‘no’ when asked during jury selection if he had attended any protests for George Floyd,” the conservative news organization reported. Some of Floyd’s family members spoke at the rally.
The BLM activist who voted to convict Chauvin tried to explain away why he did not tell the truth on the jury selection forms.
“It was huge to get people geared for voter turnout, so being a part of that, being able to attend, you know, the same location where Martin Luther King gave his speech was a historic moment,” Mitchell told a Minnesota CBS affiliate. “Either way, I was going to D.C. for this event, even if George Floyd was still alive.”
“A number of legal sources, including those familiar with the trial, told WCCO this juror at minimum will have to be questioned in what’s called a Schwartz hearing,” CBS reported. “And depending on his answers, a mistrial could be declared.”
Left-wing activists cheered while Chauvin was convicted.
A handful of left-wingers, after controversial statements were made by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, shot at National Guardsmen before the trial — the shooter motives are unknown.
Waters had urged Black Lives Matter and leftists to be “confrontational,” especially if Chauvin was not convicted.
However, Congressional Democrats rallied to Waters’ support, seeing nothing wrong with a California Congresswoman traveling to Minnesota to rile up crowds and potentially incite violence against law enforcement and the military.
