Psaki Can't Explain Why Biden Hasn't Called Bibi Netanyahu During First Weeks Of Administration
During a White House Press Briefing on Tuesday, a reporter brought up to Press Secretary Jen Psaki that the Biden administration had not yet called Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and wanted to know why. Psaki was not able to provide an answer.
“Correct me if I wrong, but the president hasn’t spoken yet with Prime Minister Netanyahu. He has not. Isn’t that surprising?” asked the reporter.
“I don’t know that it’s surprising less than two weeks into an administration. He hasn’t called every foreign leader yet. He certainly would love to spend more time talking to foreign leaders. His first love is foreign policy. But I expect he’ll continue to have additional engagements in the weeks ahead. And, obviously, we have a long and abiding relationship with Israel, important security relationship. I’m sure they’ll discuss that and a range of issues when they do connect,” Psaki replied.
The former administration took a much different approach to foreign policy as Trump called Netanyahu just two days after inauguration.
So far in his term as president, Biden has called the leader of Mexico, Japan, Germany, Russia, Japan, and others.
