GOP Reps. Demand Pelosi Pay Fine For Avoiding Her Own Metal Detector Rule

In a letter sent US Sergeant-at-Arms Timothy Blodgett on Friday, Republican Representatives requested that Pelosi pay the $5 thousand fine imposed on anyone not walking through the metal detectors to the House chamber as it is alleged she avoided the detectors herself.

Yesterday, at approximately 9:59 am, multiple members observed the Speaker of the House entering the House Chamber without completing security screening," read the letter. “What was observed was a clear violation of House Resolution 73 and you are required by House Rules to impose this fine. Please inform us once the fine has been assessed. We look forward to a prompt response to this inquiry."

Just proves this new rule is being arbitrarily enforced & clearly does not apply to all members. It was put in place for political gain, not for safety. Reps. Louie Gohmert and Andrew Clyde were forced to pay the fine after they refused to pass through the metal detectors last week.

“Rep. Crenshaw also slammed Pelosi for breaking her own rules and tweeted “Play by the rules Madam Speaker. Multiple members saw you enter the Chamber without going through YOUR metal detectors. Pay the $5,000 fine.”

Freshman Rep. Nancy Mace also slammed Pelosi and called the metal detectors “unconstitutional.”
