Dem Rep. Cori Bush Appears to Show Support for Inmates Who Rioted, Attacked Guards In St. Louis Prison
Over the weekend on Saturday, inmates at a St. Louis jail started a riot and continued to break windows and start fires after a single inmate attacked a guard that was on duty. Instead of condemning the riots, freshman rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) supported the inmates.
“A riot is the language of the unheard,” said Bush, quoting an MLK speech. “I want to talk to my constituents in the window. Their lives and their rights must be protected. My team and I are working to ensure that the urgent needs of people who are incarcerated are not ignored.”
Just a month earlier, Bush condemned riots after individuals stormed the Capitol building and broke in on January 6. It now appears she is walking back those statements.
In the same MLK speech that Bush quoted, it continues to say “Riots are socially destructive and self-defeating... So I will continue to condemn riots, and continue to say to my brothers and sisters that this is not the way. And continue to affirm that there is another way.”
