Kamala Harris’ office reportedly in turmoil as abusive work environment revealed

Politico spoke to more than 20 staffers and sources who said that Harris’ office is a cesspool of abuse and harassment.

Vice-President Kamala Harris spent months complaining that one of her taxpayer-funded mansions ready yet -- but maybe she should have spent more time worrying about how her staffers were being treated.

“Harris’ team is experiencing low morale, porous lines of communication and diminished trust among aides and senior officials,” Politico reported. “Much of the frustration internally is directed at Tina Flournoy, Harris’ chief of staff, a veteran of Democratic politics who began working for her earlier this year.”

The news outlet said former aides and associates “described a tense and at times dour office atmosphere.”

“Aides and allies said Flournoy, in an apparent effort to protect Harris, has instead created an insular environment where ideas are ignored or met with harsh dismissals and decisions are dragged out,” Politico said. “Often, they said, she refuses to take responsibility for delicate issues and blames staffers for the negative results that ensue.”

The controversy is another headache for Harris, who has repeatedly failed to deliver a clear and convincing message for the administration. She has also laughed off criticism of her for not visiting the border, which she finally did after being in office for five months.

People who defend the criticism of the abuse played the race AND gender card.

“Harris and Flournoy’s defenders also note that women in power—Black women in particular—are subjected to standards that men often don’t have to clear,” Politico said. “A tough and demanding office environment may be seen as a virtue for one and a sign of disorder and lack of leadership acumen for another.”
