Government Ethics Group Files Legal Complaint Against Andrew Cuomo Over COVID Book
Yet another controversy has hit the Andrew Cuomo team, this time coming in the form of a legal complaint against how he used his campaign to sell books.
Governor Andrew Cuomo released a book about how he successfully conquered coronavirus in the state. While that turned out to not actually be true, his administration hid nursing home deaths, it gave him another reason to brag about his success.
Now, a left-leaning ethics group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, has filed a legal complaint with the New York Board of Elections of his promotion of the book. Campaign funds cannot be spent for personal benefit -- including profiting off book sales.
“New York Governor Andrew Cuomo appears to have broken the law by using his campaign to help sell his book, according to a complaint filed today by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington with the New York State Board of Elections. Election law expressly prohibits the use of campaign funds for personal use,” the group said.
“In October 2020, Cuomo released a book about his experiences as governor during the COVID-19 crisis. Cuomo for New York, his authorized campaign committee, repeatedly promoted sales of the book on social media and in emails sent to supporters,” the news release said.
Cuomo is already facing criticism for numerous allegations of sexual harassment, as well as the way he botched the handling of COVID in his state.
Furthermore, he allegedly used his office to ensure that his family and the well-connected were prioritized for COVID care.
