Gavin Newsom and California Agree to Pay Churches Millions in Settlements Over Lockdown Discrimination

Taxpayers are footing the bill for the left-wing governor’s COVID rules that severely limited church attendance.

Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, ordered shutdowns and limits on churches and California taxpayers will now pay the price.

“The State of California agreed to enter into permanent injunctions that prohibit the State from imposing discriminatory restrictions on all houses of worship statewide and also agreed to pay $2,150,000 in attorneys’ fees to settle two religious liberty cases,” The Daily Wire reported.

“The settlements, secured by attorneys for the Thomas More Society, resolve the cases they brought on behalf of South Bay United Pentecostal Church and Father Trevor Burfitt against Democratic California Gavin Newsom,” the conservative news site reported.

It’s another major blow to Newsom’s agenda to limit the free practice of faith.

“Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom was ordered by a federal judge to pay a $1.35 million settlement to a Los Angeles-area church in his capacity as governor because of the state’s onerous lockdown rules against houses of worship,” the Daily Wire previously reported.
