Durham, North Carolina Will Spend $6 Million Per Year for Reparations

The city will spend the money on “green and equitable infrastructure.”

Durham, North Carolina recently announced it will spend $6 million of taxpayer money on reparations for slavery, despite the fact that literally no one alive today in North Carolina has ever been enslaved.

“The city’s budget for the next fiscal year includes $6 million that will go toward green and equitable infrastructure in historically Black neighborhoods,” WUNC reported. “Durham intends to allocate money every year going forward.”

It’s not the only progressive city advancing a racial grievance narrative.

“Asheville is setting another example, separately, committing $2.1 million toward funding reparations about two weeks ago,” WUNC said. “Durham and Asheville are among 11 U.S. cities attempting to provide reparations.”

In 2018, Durham’s council voted on a “resolution calling for reparations to descendants of enslaved people.”

“The historic injustices from slavery from Jim Crow, and now the injustices that continue today, have had an incredibly disproportionate burden on our African American brothers and sisters here in Durham and around the country,” the mayor, Steve Schewel, told the local news site recently.
