President Trump Hints At Daughter-In-Law’s Potential Run For US Senate
Former President Donald Trump recently said he wants his daughter-in-law to run for the U.S. Senate seat in North Carolina.
President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind his daughter-in-law Lara Trump’s rumored run for an open North Carolina Senate seat vacated by Senator Richard Burr.
Burr announced he will not run in 2022; many conservatives and Republicans have criticized him for turning his back on the former President by supporting his impeachment, though he had considered retiring before he became a traitor to Trump.
“I'm with you 100 percent and we've had many meetings in the White House and the Oval Office,” President Trump said at the fundraiser, according to Newsweek.
Lara, the wife of Eric Trump, is a native of North Carolina and would likely have name recognition and support from Trump activists in the state.
“It would be an incredible thing. It's my home state, a state I love so much,” Lara said in November when asked about the possibility.
“And look, I think we need some strong Republicans in Washington, DC. We had a great run with the Senate and the House this go-round, but you know, let's see what happens,” Lara told Fox News.
She mentioned that she named her daughter Carolina after her home state.
Former Congressman Mark Meadows, who also served as the president’s chief of staff, said he would not run for the open Senate seat. Meadows is a conservative stalwart who previously represented the state in the U.S. House.
Meadows mentioned Lara’s potential candidacy when he announced he had no intention of running, according to the Daily Caller.
