18 men register as transgender females to avoid Mexico’s candidate gender equality rule

Mexico has a law that requires political parties to have an equal amount of male and female candidates, but one party avoided the rule by having men pretend to be women in order to get around the rule.

“18 members of a Mexican political party participating in the 2021 election cycle have registered as transgender women in order to circumvent the constitutional gender quota,” the Daily Caller reported.

“They did so in order to conform to the 2019 constitutional reform that requires that the slate of candidates of political parties throughout Mexico be made up of 50% women and 50% men,” Catholic News Agency explained.

The political party’’s leader, Luis Vargas, said that Force of Mexico’s candidates were not lying.

“The trans issue is three-pronged: transgender, transsexual, and transvestite. And the issue for the (trans) community is very broad,” Vargas told Televisa, a Mexico news station. “I can’t get into people's privacy and tell them ‘you yes and you no.’”
