Ted Cruz BLASTS Biden Admin for Funneling $100 Million of Taxpayer Dollars to Palestinians
Senator Cruz slammed the Biden Administration over reports it is funneling $100 million in taxpayer dollars to foreign enemies.
“ The Biden administration is quietly ramping up assistance to the Palestinians after former President Donald Trump cut off nearly all aid,” Matthew Lee with the Associated Press reported recently.
“Since taking office with a pledge to reverse many of Trump’s Israeli-Palestinian decisions, the administration has allocated nearly $100 million for the Palestinians, only a small portion of which has been publicized,” Lee said.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz slammed this as “deeply troubling.
“Joe Biden is about to pour almost $100 million into Palestinian areas,” the Texas Senator wrote, “while the Palestinians continue to pay for terrorists who murder Israelis & Americans.”
The Biden Administration has to walk a tightrope. While most Jewish Americans support Israel and voted for Biden, many far-left activists want to see Israel cede authority to the Palestinians.
The funding is raising the possibility that the Biden Administration could be breaking the law or at least skirting around it.
Under U.S. law, foreign aid (taxpayer dollars) cannot go to the Palestinian authority as long as it continues to pay terrorists who attack the U.S. and Israel.
But the AP reported:
A copy of the March 26 congressional notification from the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development was obtained by The Associated Press, just hours after the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office issued a report that found USAID had not properly vetted all of its Palestinian funding recipients for U.S. antiterrorism criteria as required by law.
In other words, it’s not clear the Biden Administration is following the spirit of the law.
The money appears to be going to organizations and “communities” and not directly to political leaders.
“The administration announced last Thursday that it was giving $15 million to vulnerable Palestinian communities in the West Bank and Gaza to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic,” the AP said. “A day later, with no public announcement, it notified Congress that it will give the Palestinians $75 million for economic support, to be used in part to regain their “trust and goodwill” after the Trump-era cuts.”
