At Least 10 Rockets Hit Airbase in Iraq Hosting US Troops

The US led coalition in Iraq says at least 10 rockets have been fired at al-Asad airbase in Iraq, a base that hosts American troops.

At least 10 rockets hit a military base in western Iraq hosting US-led coalition troops Wednesday, leaving one civilian contractor dead.

The attack on the Ain al-Assad airbase in Iraq comes after weeks of escalating US-Iran tensions on Iraqi soil.

Pope Francis is expected to make the first ever papal visit to Iraq, who says he will still be coming so he does not ‘disappoint’ the Iraqi people.

Ain al-Assad holds both Iraqi forces as well as US-led coalition troops.

"One civilian contractor died of a heart attack during the attack," they have not confirmed the contractor's nationality.

This marks the third fatality in rocket attacks in recent weeks, previously rockets targeting US-led troops in Arbil left two people dead.
