REPORT: Israel Calls on Biden Admin to Stay Out of Jerusalem Crisis
Axios reported Monday amid an ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinians that Israeli officials have asked Biden officials to not intervene.
This is the first major issue to arise between Israel and the Palestinians since the Biden Administration has taken office.
After four years of having an Israel-friendly Trump Administration, the Israeli government is now faced with a current administration that will be much more critical of Israel.
The Biden Administration has reportedly been monitoring the situation in Jerusalem and has allegedly raised concerns privately with the Israeli government.
Despite the resistance to any US involvement, the Israelis took the steps requested by the US to de-escalate the situation.
Axios reported that, “Israeli officials said Ben Shabbat told Sullivan during the phone call that Israel believes the Biden administration and the rest of the international community should stay out of the crisis in Jerusalem and avoid pressing Israel.”
According to an Israeli official briefed on the call, Ben Shabbat told Sullivan that, “international intervention is a reward to the Palestinian rioters and those who back them who were seeking international pressure on Israel.”
The Axios report added that, “The Israeli national security adviser told his U.S. counterpart that if the U.S. and the international community want to help in restoring calm, they should put pressure on the inciting elements on the Palestinian side, the Israeli official said.”
