Amazon Removes Clarence Thomas Documentary During Black History Month
Amazon Prime reportedly removed the PBS Documentary Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words without providing an explanation.
Justice Clarence Thomas is the only black Supreme Court Justice currently sitting on the bench and the 2nd black Supreme Court Justice in US History.
The documentary, Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words, was listed as “Currently Unavailable” on the platform starting on February 8th, which is the bulk of Black History Month.
"This video is currently unavailable to watch in your location," the streaming service reads after selecting the title.
The documentary was sold in DVD format on Amazon's website, but as of Friday it was listed as “currently unavailable” in DVD format as well.
The Documentary Producer said the film was removed by Amazon at their own discretion and without providing an explanation to the filmmakers.
The documentary largely follows Justice Clarence Thomas’ upbringing in the racially segregated south as a poor fatherless black man raised by his strict grandfather. It documents his struggles and his rise to eventually becoming the second black Supreme Court Justice.
The documentary follows Thomas’ life in his own words and also highlights his transition from a Marxist with an affinity for Malcolm X to becoming an assistant to a Republican Attorney General in Missouri and a friend of renowned economist Thomas Sowell.
The highly politicized and racially charged nomination process Justice Thomas endured was closely documented in the film, including then Senator Joe Biden’s aggressive line of questioning. Justice Thomas’ famous “High Tech Lynching” speech is also a major emotional part of the highly rated documentary.
Amazon has not yet released a statement at this time about why the documentary was suddenly removed from their service.
While we are unable to definitely prove bias or censorship as the reason for the video being taken down, this instance will only spark further questions about whether Big Tech unfairly targets conservatives.
Other streaming and purchasing platforms are still playing and selling the documentary.
“Tubi” a video streaming channel/app available on most Smart TVs and Roku is currently streaming it for free (with advertisements).
We strongly encourage all of our readers to watch, Created Equal: Clarence Thomas In His Own Words.
