Golden Globes Ratings Crash By Over 60 Percent in Early Numbers Report
The 78th Annual Golden Globes award was a major disaster both with Zoom glitches and struggling ratings.
NBC’s broadcast of the awards show on Sunday garnered a pathetic 5.42 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 advertising bracket.
These numbers are down more than 60 percent from the 14.76 million views and 3.8 rating with 18-49 year old viewers last year.
The Hollywood Reporter claimed, “the early numbers for Sunday don't include viewing of the live show in the Pacific time zone or any out of home viewing. Those figures will be included in the final same-day tally released Tuesday morning and will likely push the numbers up some, but nowhere near enough to bring it up close to recent years.”
Last year’s opening monologue from comedian Ricky Gervais drew millions of views as he blasted political correctness and cancel culture.
This year’s opening act featured Amy Poehler and Tina Fey and attempted to call for more unity.
Celebrities like Sacha Baron Cohen and Mark Ruffalo delivered political speeches despite Fey’s promise that the show would avoid politics.
