Thousands of New York, Chicago students leave public schools

Liberal politicians and union leaders have pushed for heavy-handed COVID rules and kept many schools closed to in-person learning.

Parents and students have voted with their feet against the public school systems in major cities including New York and Chicago.

“Chicago Public Schools enrollment has dropped again, this time to 330,411 students, about 10,000 fewer kids than last year, according to numbers the district released Wednesday,” the Chicago Tribune reported.

Some of it is likely attributable to COVID shutdowns, though the problem has been going on for years.

“Enrollment at New York City public schools has dropped by 17,000 this year, Department of Education data released Friday shows,” the New York Daily News reported.

Many private schools have remained open to in-person learning, even in the 2020-2021 school year. As public school leaders continue to disregard students, many families will continue to look elsewhere.
