Wikipedia Co-Founder Launching Competitor Citing Website's Bias As Reason
One of Wikipedia’s co-founders, Larry Sanger, is reportedly launching a competing unbiased alternative to the popular online encyclopedia website.
Sanger blasted Wikipedia for turning their back on their “commitment to neutrality” and said he’s working on a new project called 'Encyclosphere.’
Sanger told Fox News in an interview that it was ‘disheartening’ for him to see the site’s blatant bias and said the site was ‘broken beyond repair.’
'The days of Wikipedia's robust commitment to neutrality are long gone,' Sanger said.
'Wikipedia's ideological and religious bias is real and troubling, particularly in a resource that continues to be treated by many as an unbiased reference work.'
Sanger cited how pages related to socialism and communism have become “left-wing advocacy essays.”
Sanger said he held off on creating a new project in the past but believes it is beyond repair, which is the inspiration to start his 'Encyclosphere' project.
The Wikimedia Foundation told Fox News in a statement that 'Wikipedia is a living, breathing project, and is always evolving just as our shared understanding of a topic does.'
