Parler Website is Back Online and Makes Promise to Users
The free speech platform popular with conservatives, Parler, was back online Sunday following an outage after being kicked off Amazon Web Services.
The website reappeared Sunday with a message from their CEO John Matze saying, “Hello, world. Is this thing on?”
Below Matze’s whimsical parley was a more detailed statement which outline the companies purpose and commitment to their users and public.
The statement read as follows:
Now seems like the right time to remind you all — both lovers and haters — why we started this platform. We believe privacy is paramount and free speech essential, especially on social media. Our aim has always been to provide a nonpartisan public square where individuals can enjoy and exercise their rights to both.
We will resolve any challenge before us and plan to welcome all of you back soon. We will not let civil discourse perish!
Business Insider reported that Parler is now being hosted by Epik, the same company that hosts Gab, a different free speech platform that also resembles Twitter. Epik denied in a statement that the two companies had been in touch.
Apple and Google have both suspended Parler from their app stores, however Apple CEO Tim Cook recently stated in an interview that he hoped Parler would be able to get reinstated in the Apple App Store soon.
In a court filing, Parler disputed claims made by Amazon that they had repeatedly warned Parler about their potential suspension from its services.
Parler has become a very popular social media platform for conservatives frustrated with censorship taking place on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Hopefully Parler is able to get their platform back up to full speed before all of their momentum is lost.
