John Stossel Sues Facebook Claiming Defamation Over Fact-Check Label
The former Fox Business host is taking on the Big Tech company.
Longtime Fox Business host and libertarian commentator John Stossel is taking on Big Tech tyranny by filing a federal lawsuit against Facebook.
“Former TV journalist John Stossel is demanding at least $2 million in damages from Facebook in a lawsuit he filed against the social media giant, alleging the company defamed him by appending fact-checking labels to two videos he posted about climate change,” Variety.com reported.
Two fact-checks by Facebook, attached to his videos, are actually fake news themselves, the libertarian alleges.
“Stossel, who worked at ABC News for more than 25 years before hosting a weekly news show on Fox Business, claims that after Facebook added the fact-checking label to his ‘Alarmism Video’ in April 2021, ad revenue generated by his videos dropped almost in half, from approximately $10,000 per month to $5,500 per month,” Variety explained.
Facebook employees and its fact-checkers “are currently serving as judge, jury, and executioner regarding whether users are on the ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ side of a complex scientific debate,” the lawsuit points out.
It’s been a tough week for Facebook’s attorneys, as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has asked the state’s Secretary of State to open an investigation into the tech company’s meddling in elections.
