NBA Players Will NOT Be Required to be Vaccinated for COVID
Even though coaches, referees and most staff have to get vaccinated, the players union won an exemption for its members.
NBA players who have made the decision not to take the COVID vaccine do not need to worry about losing their jobs, unlike tens of thousands of healthcare workers.
That’s because the National Basketball Players Association has reportedly won an exemption from the league’s vaccine mandate.
“The NBA will not mandate covid vaccinations,” Clay Travis at Outkick.com reported. “Credit to the NBAPA for standing up and fighting this requirement.”
ESPN first reported the news.
“Roughly 85% of players are vaccinated, a league spokesman recently said, and, in a preliminary memo obtained by ESPN in early September, the league outlined a set of strict protocols for unvaccinated players,” ESPN reported. “Such protocols include having lockers far from vaccinated teammates and having to eat, fly and ride buses in different sections. These protocols are not final and are still subject to talks with the NBPA.”
Americans may have different reasons for choosing not to take the vaccine, whether for religious, medical or other reasons. In a free country it’s important we respect people’s medical decisions, even if President Joe Biden wants to override individual freedom.
