“In situations like this it is difficult and challenging...and yet we have trust and confidence in our God,” Bishop Samuel Aquila of the diocese of Denver said during the Mass. “Eric was a man who gave his life and Jesus has told us ‘greater love than this, no man has than to lay down his life.’ And Eric lived that.”
“[From] testimonies from other officers, it was evident he was a man of God, one who put Christ first in his life, put his family first and put the community and saving others [first],” Bishop Aquila said. “Also to the police officers who are here, know too you are in my prayers.”
A priest who knows the Talley family provided further praise and words of comfort for the police officer’s wife, kids and other relatives.
The evil done in Boulder “broke the heart of God” Fr. James Jackson, the pastor at Talley’s church in Littleton, said.
Jackson said the people at the Mass were there to “thank God the Father for having created Eric Talley.”
“He was a good man” and a good father, husband and law enforcement officer, the Catholic priest said.
He urged prayers for Talley and his family.
