U.S. Senate Passes Budget Resolution For $1.9 Trillion COVID Bill
The U.S. Senate passed a budget resolution for the $1.9 trillion COVID bill on Friday morning with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote. This resolution will strip Republicans of the opportunity to filibuster the bill.
The relief bill will likely pass in late February or March due to Senate Democrats wanting to first complete the impeachment trial of former President Trump. The bill will also have to go back to the House for a final vote.
This $1.9 trillion bill is significantly larger than the GOP’s counter-proposal which was $618 billion. The GOP wanted to send smaller checks to Americans and through June rather than September.
According to Biden, he is willing to make concessions to Republicans in order to increase the probability of bi-partisan support.
