Trump's Final Pardons Included Two Men Sentenced For Life Under Biden 1994 Crime Bill

On his last day in office, former president Donald Trump issued 143 pardons and commutations to release a variety of individuals from prison. Among those pardons include two men who were sentenced for life under Biden’s 1994 Crime Bill.

Michael Pelletier was one of the men who Trump pardoned for drug offenses. He was convicted for smuggling marijuana from Canada to Maine, two places where the drug is now legalized.

Right before he was pardoned, Pelletier said “I honestly believe President Trump will be the man who will end this nightmare and reunite me with my family.”

The second man who was pardoned from his life sentence was Corvain Cooper, who already had one of his sentences shortened thanks to the First Step Act signed by Trump.

“Biden is responsible for the 1994 crime law that [resulted in] Corvain Cooper being sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for marijuana and the Obama-Biden administration was directly responsible for the prosecution and conviction of Corvain Cooper under the 1994 crime law,” said Cooper’s attorney.

Trump signed a total of 70 pardons and 73 commutations on Tuesday.
