Obama shuts off Instagram comments as Afghani’s plead for help
The former president is being asked to intervene in support of the people in Afghanistan.
Former President Barack Obama has shut off the comments function on his Instagram page, and his former vice president oversees a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
“Commenting on former President Obama's Instagram page was briefly suspended Monday morning as commenters urged the former president to do something about the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan,” Fox News reported.
“Obama has yet to issue a public statement on the rapidly declining situation in Afghanistan, as thousands of people try to flee the country that fell to Taliban rule in a matter of days,” the news site reported.
A spokesperson for the former president denied any political motive behind the several hour pause on commenting that also affected former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Commenters pleaded with him to help.
While President Obama is no longer in power, there are a number of actions he can take. For example, he could reach out to his political and foreign policy contacts and try to get them to fix the situation. He could also raise money to help American troops who are returning from Afghanistan or press President Joe Biden for a plan.
Meanwhile, the country is in a downward spiral.
