Newt Gingrich Says Jan 6 Committee Members “Face Real Risk of Jail” if GOP Wins House in 2022
Speaker Pelosi’s committee is made up of hardcore anti-Trump Democrats and Republicans, now former Speaker Newt Gingrich is claiming they could potentially face jail time.
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich predicted a tough time, including potentially jail, for members of the highly-partisan January 6 committee in a Newsweek Op-Ed.
The committee is primarily made up of leftist Democrats and RINO Republicans like Adam Kinzinger. But a Republican landslide this year in the midterms could lead to the truth coming out about the activities of the members, Gingrich speculated.
While appearing on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Baritromo, Gingrich expanded on what he meant.
“Watching the increasingly vicious and destructive actions of the House Democrats—along with the handful of Republican enablers on the January 6 Select Committee—combined with the astonishing viciousness of President Joe Biden's speeches at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 and in Atlanta on January 11, as well as Attorney General Merrick Garland's speeches and actions, has been the most sobering period in my more than 60 years in public life,” Gingrich wrote in Newsweek.
He elaborated on his column on Fox News recently.
“I think when you have a Republican Congress, this is all going to come crashing down,” Gingrich said. “And the wolves are going to find out that they’re now sheep and they’re the ones who are in fact, I think, face a real risk of jail for the kinds of laws they’re breaking.”
Conservatives applauded Gingrich for his bold thinking while far-left Democrats dismissed the idea claiming it was a “bizarre” thought and that Newt has “really lost it.”
Most commentators and analysts have stated that it’s highly unlikely, if not impossible, for Members of the January 6th Committee to face jail time for the actions of the partisan group. However, regardless of what Democrats may claim about the former Speaker, it’s hard to find another person who has more experience in the Halls of Congress than Gingrich.
