Manchin Says He Will Not Support $3.5 Trillion Bill And Schumer Knows It
The centrist Democrat Senator is sure to draw the ire of far-left activists and radical politicans like AOC and Chuck Schumer.
West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin has apparently sunk his party’s massive government spending bill. Manchin’s objection to the legislation will force the Senate to make concessions in order to win enough votes to pass.
His announcement has drawn scorn from far-left politicians, such as socialist Senator Bernie Sanders.
“Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., reiterated Sunday that he opposed the Democrats' $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package as the party pushes to pass it and a bipartisan infrastructure bill amid packed September negotiations,” USA Today reported.
“I don't think it's acceptable for the president, to the American people, with the overwhelming majority of the people in the Democratic caucus,” Senator Sanders told CNN.
Manchin criticized the “social reform” that made up the budget. "I'm just saying that we should be looking at everything, and we're not. We don't have the need to rush into this and get it done within one week because there's some deadline we're meeting, or someone's going to fall through the cracks,” Manchin said.
The budget stall is a loss for President Biden, who needs a win right now. He’s botched the pullout from Afghanistan and he’s created further division in the country by blaming unvaccinated individuals for the pandemic.
He also told Americans while campaigning that he would have coronavirus defeated by the summer, but we’re now almost in the fall and the restrictions seem to be getting worse.
