Liz Cheney says she wants a “Cheney Party” instead of a Trump Party
The recently deposed Republican House leader wants a Republican Party that does not support Trump
Representative Liz Cheney just cannot learn her lesson -- people do not want her to represent the Republican Party.
The anti-Trump Wyoming Republican, who came into office thanks to her dad, said she wants to “mold a future Republican Party that looks more like a Cheney party and less like a Trump party,” according to Axios’ paraphrasing of her remarks.
Her comments came prior to her removal as GOP conference chair.
In reality, Cheney’s plan has been tried before by other failed political candidates who wanted to try to take over the GOP.
Many times they failed because they shared many of the policies of Trump Republicans, such as cutting taxes, protecting the Second Amendment and securing the border, but just didn’t like Trump’s style or tweets.
Remember how former Illinois Representative Joe Walsh was going to defeat Trump in 2020?
Or boring and bland former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld? How about Appalachian Trail hiker and former South Carolina governor, Mark Sanford?
All three were apparently going to defeat Trump but instead their candidacies went down in flames.
In fact, many Republicans want Trump to lead their party, and if not Trump, someone in the mold of Trump.
One poll that did not include Trump found, “ 363 of 1,200 registered Republican voters answered which GOP leader they would put their faith in to lead from the Oval Office.
“DeSantis and GOP Senator Ted Cruz of Texas led the poll, with 21 percent and 18 percent of all respondents expressing their support, respectively.”
Meanwhile, a February 2021 poll found that Trump-supporting Marjorie Taylor Greene had net favorability among Republicans and right-leaning citizens, while Cheney was negative 28 in favorability.
