Gold medalist Ryan Lochte disagrees with athletes who disrespect American flag
Twelve-time Olympic medalist and world record holder Ryan Lochte said he disagrees with athletes who “disgrace” the American flag to make a political statement.
Ryan Lochte’s comments come just a few weeks after Gwen Berry, a Team USA hammer thrower, turned her back on the American flag as the national anthem played during Olympic trials where she finished in third place.

“I'm American, I love America,” Lochte said, “so if it was me, I definitely wouldn't [protest], but that's just me.”
Activists athletes like Gwen Berry have been met with heavy criticism from many who see her actions as un-American.
