CPAC Releases Straw Poll Results for 2024 GOP Presidential Race
The former president remains popular among Republicans and young conservatives based on a recent straw poll released by CPAC.
President Donald Trump remains popular among grassroots activists, according to a poll from this week’s Conservative Political Action Conference.
President Trump “captured 70% of ballots cast in the anonymous straw poll, according to results announced by CPAC on Sunday afternoon,” Fox News reported.
CPAC’s audience skews younger and is made up, generally, of the more committed grassroots activists who volunteer on campaigns and hold positions within local and state Republican parties.
The next highest choice is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who won 21% of support from the activists. Trump has previously said he is interested in picking DeSantis as his running mate if he runs in 2024.
No one else polled above 1%.
However, when Trump was removed, DeSantis won nearly 70 percent of support.
“DeSantis grabbed 68% support on that question, with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at 5%. Donald Trump Jr. and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas were both at 4%, with South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem at 3%. No one else topped 2%,” Fox News said.”
