Archbishop: Catholic Troops CAN Reject COVID Vaccine Based on Religious Beliefs
President Biden’s administration wants to coerce Americans to get vaccinated.
The Archbishop for Military Services Timothy Broglio said that our brave men and women in uniform should not be coerced into taking the COVID vaccine.
“On 24 August 2021, the Secretary of Defense issued a memorandum directing the mandatory vaccination of all services members against COVID-19,” Broglio wrote. “Since then, some service members have refused to take the vaccine and have requested a religious accommodation through the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.”
“This circumstance raises the question of whether the vaccine’s moral permissibility precludes an individual from forming a sincerely held religious belief that receiving the vaccine would violate his conscience. It does not,” the archbishop wrote.
Many Catholics have objections to the vaccine’s connection to abortion. While the Vatican has said it is permissible and not sinful for a Catholic to take the COVID vaccine, Archbishop Broglio has affirmed that people can have good reasons, based on their faith, to refuse the vaccine.
Americans have different views on the vaccines, and millions of citizens have chosen to take them. But other people have chosen not to take the vaccine for different reasons, including medical or religious concerns.
In a free country, people should be able to make their own medical decisions about whether to get vaccinated or not, and we should respect what they choose. Archbishop Broglio is standing up for the medical freedom rights of our brave men and women in uniform.
