WATCH: New police video shows Daunte Wright attempted to flee in his car while being arrested

Recently released video footage shows a black police officer arresting Daunte Wright before he allegedly tried to drive away.

Black Lives Matter activists are violently protesting in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, but as is often the case with police shootings, there’s more to the story.

Brooklyn Center police shot Wright, a 20-year-old with an arrest warrant, after he was in handcuffs and tried to drive away in his car. The arresting officer appears to be black, complicating the racial narrative often favored by Black Lives Matter.

“Stop, bro” the police officer can be heard on the video saying to Wright, as he appears to start to squirm.

A female police officer can be heard saying “I’ll tase you” as Wright enters his car.

The officer who shot Wright has said she meant to use her taser, not her handgun, according to police officials.

“Oh s***,” the officer says, “I shot him.”

“It is my belief that the officer had the intention to employ their taser, but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet,” Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said during a press conference.

The facts of the confrontation continue to emerge, and it is important to not rush to any opinions. However, rioting has already begun.

“Hours after the shooting, hundreds of residents surrounded the police headquarters and clashed with police, who responded with tear gas and flashbangs reminiscent of last summer’s protests after the police death of George Floyd,” the Daily Beast reported. There have been reports of frozen cans of pop being thrown, according to comments from the police chief.
