Dozens of Chicago police officers turn back on Mayor Lightfoot during speech
The Mayor of Chicago appeared to downplay the death of a police officer by referencing racism.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot continues to lose the trust of her constituents, including the Chicago Police Department.
“When Mayor Lori Lightfoot arrived late Saturday to the hospital where one officer remains in serious condition, more than two dozen Chicago police officers reportedly turned their backs,” thescoop.com reported.
The Scoop reported:
Officer Ella French, 29, of the Chicago Police Department was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Saturday night, as her partner is fighting for his life at the University of Chicago Medical Center. The Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday morning that when Lightfoot visited the hospital about midnight Saturday, approximately 30 officers turned their backs on her as she approached them on the 7th floor.
As mayor, Lightfoot has lost popularity. She instituted debilitating lockdowns which shuttered thousands of businesses. Furthermore, she has appeared at times to support Black Lives Matter activists over police officers.
She also shut down the beaches early on during the COVID outbreak but broke her own rules, having a private hairdresser do her hair, soon after she shut down salons.
“Some say we don't do enough for the police. Others say we do too much. All of this must stop. We have a common enemy: it's guns & the violence they bring, “ Lightfoot said.
