Black Columbus resident defends cop who shot teenage girl armed with knife
“She was in full attack mode” the resident said.
While the White House rushed to judgment on the death of a Columbus teenage girl who was shot while armed with a knife, at least one black Columbus resident said he believes the white cop acted correctly.
“I believe in truth and facts. Video doesn’t lie,” Ira Graham III told The Columbus Dispatch. “She was in full attack mode,” Graham said (pictured, from his website).
Another resident, race unidentified, said his private security camera captured some of the incident that led to the fatal shooting of Ma’Khia Bryant. (The foster agency taking care of Bryant used that spelling, though other publications have used different iterations).
“Donavon Brinson, who lives across the street from the foster home, saw some girls come out of that house and then he heard commotion,” the Dispatch reported.
He said he originally thought it was just a “girl fight” and went inside to avoid the ruckus.
“He immediately thought about his security camera on his garage. He watched the footage. He saw the fight, saw the glint of the knife,” the Dispatch reported.
“If the officer hadn't done what he did, I think we'd have two girls dead," Brinson said. "It was violent and all just happened so fast."
Facts continue to emerge in the case and this publication will continue reporting on the story. Unlike the mainstream media, we will not be leaping to judgements of the girl or the officer but only providing information.
