Black Student Admits to Racist Graffiti That Caused Student Walkout
It appears there is another example of hoaxes surrounding racism, this time on a high school campus.
A black student has admitted to writing racist graffiti that sparked a walkout. And the school’s superintendent said that the hoax still shows the harm of racism.
“The messages at Parkway Central included a racial slur against Blacks on the bathroom walls as well as a statement wishing for the death of Black people, officials said,” according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Students walked out of classes and chanted the Black Lives Matter slogan, “No justice, no peace.” Justice may be served, as the student is reportedly facing “severe” punishment for manufacturing the race hoax.
“Last week was difficult for many of our students and staff. We also saw many positive outcomes,” Superintendent Keith Marty said. “[M]any students shared personal experiences of racism throughout their lives and at school. Their voice was a clear indication that more work is needed to ensure our school cultures and communities are safe for each student regardless of their race.”
As The College Fix noted, Marty made similar statements in 2017 when another minority student manufactured a race hoax.
“This incident caused significant harm to and within our school community by provoking feelings of hurt and distrust. The use of the N-word, in the context of the message on the bathroom mirror, provoked feelings of hate, not love,” Marty said in 2017, after someone wrote “White lives matter” with the ‘N-word’ on a bathroom mirror.
