Apple Suspends Conservative Social Media App Parler from App Store

Apple announced Saturday evening that they have made the decision to suspend Parler from their App Store until the company can implement a moderation system that meets their standards.

The tech giant Apple announced Saturday that they would be banning the popular conservative social media app Parler from their App Store.

Apple stated that "Parler has not taken adequate measures to address the proliferation of these threats to people’s safety," and that they have "suspended Parler from the App Store until they resolve these issues."

According to reports Parler was given a 24-hour ultimatum to implement a moderation system to combat violence and hate speech on their platform. It’s unclear if Parler is attempting to implement a new moderation system right now or if they plan to move forward without access to the Apple App Store.

Apple claims there were complaints Parler had been used to organize the breach of the US Capitol on January 6th.

Since Launching in 2018 the free speech app has been a popular place for conservatives frustrated with social media censorship on major platforms like Facebook and Twitter to go. The app was #1 in popularity on the Apple App store when it was suspended from the store.

For people who have already downloaded the Parler app on their phone, it should continue to work, however with future IOS updates the app may stop working if the issue is not resolved.

Parler’s CEO, John Matze stated that Parler has no way to "organize anything" and went on to blame Facebook groups for organizing the riots.

Matze believes that Parler is being used as a scapegoat for the other platforms.

John Matze went on to write, “Violence and coordinating riots, coordinating rebellions and coordinating insurrections has no place on social media… We value free speech per what the US constitution allows. What the media is doing is by continuing to attack is disgusting. We need to get together and Parley and heal and move on.”
