Jen Psaki: the federal government is flagging ‘disinformation’ for Facebook

The announcement sparked criticism that the government is essentially using Big Tech to censor free speech.

The federal government is working in conjunction with Facebook to flag ‘disinformation’ about coronavirus, Press Secretary Jen Psaki recently announced. It has to be noted that Facebook’s own fact-checkers had to retract their decision to censor discussion about the possibility that coronavirus leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China.

“We're flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation,” Psaki said recently.

The Surgeon General has also created a guide on how the federal government is flagging posts that allegedly spread false information about COVID. He has urged social media companies to censor posts.

“Health misinformation is a serious threat to public health,” Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said recently. “It can cause confusion, sow mistrust, harm people's health, and undermine public health efforts. Limiting the spread of health misinformation is a moral and civic imperative.”
