35 House Republicans Side With Democrats to Create ‘9/11 Style Commission’ for January 6th

The House passed H.R. 3233 by a vote of 252-175, with 35 Republicans siding with Democrats despite GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy’s opposition.

The bill, titled the “National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act,” had zero Democrat defectors and managed to pick up some Republican support.

The Republicans who crossed over to vote yes on the bill included all 10 GOP legislators who backed impeachment in the aftermath of the January 6th riot on Capitol Hill.

The full list of Republicans who voted for the bill include:

  • Tom Rice (R-SC)

  • Dan Newhouse (R-WA)

  • Cliff Bentz (R-OR)

  • Tom Reed (R-NY)

  • Peter Meijer (R-MI)

The 35 turncoat Republicans were quickly criticized by Conservatives from across the spectrum, including Dinesh D’Souza, who referred to them as “traitors to their party.”

The issue of January 6th and impeachment is a central focus in dozens of Republican primaries nationwide, including the race to replace retiring Senator Rob Portman (R-OH).

America-First candidate Josh Mandel charged his opponent with being insufficiently supportive of President Trump and supportive of never-Trump Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, who also supported impeachment.
