Penn State professor targets ‘average white guy’ student during lecture

Penn State University sociology professor Sam Richards singled out an “average white guy” and claimed race benefits him at the expense of his black classmates.

Video filmed in June 2021 shows professor Sam Richards say, “I just take the average White guy in class, whoever it is, it doesn't really matter.”

Richards singles out a white student and says, “Russell has a benefit of having white skin.”

Another video from the same lecture, which can be seen below, also showed Richards bringing one white student and one black student to the front of the class and asking about privilege.

“How does it feel knowing that when push comes to shove your skin's kind of nice?” Professor Sam Richards can be heard asking the White student.

“It makes me feel sad,” said the white student from the front of the lecture hall.

The video has sparked outrage on social media and Penn State has faced criticism for the professor’s content. In a statement to Fox News, The university claimed “often on social media short snippets are taken out of a longer lecture/class discussion, and at times taken out of context.”

2020 Republican congressional nominee and Penn State alumnus, Jim Bognet, weighed in on the situation, “I'm saddened that my alma mater Penn State has a professor that is dividing students based on race and teaching them that the skin color is more important than character, hard work and achievement. CRT has no place at our Universities!”

Jim Bognet is rumored to be a 2022 candidate for Congress, seen by many in northeast Pennsylvania as the front-runner to defeat Nancy Pelosi ally Matt Cartwright (PA-8.) In 2020, Bognet earned the endorsement of then-President Donald Trump in a highly competitive matchup.
